Residency Determination Service

Unknown.jpeg

What is RDS?

An online form that determines whether or not you can be classified as a resident of North Carolina. If you are considered a resident, you will be able to receive in-state tuition at North Carolina public colleges and universities. If you are classified a non-resident, you will pay the out-of-state rate. RDS is not required for private North Carolina colleges and universities because the tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state residents.

Money

Why does this matter?

It is required to apply to any public college in North Carolina and receive in-state tuition. This can save you thousands of dollars when paying for college. When you complete it, you will receive a Residency Certification Number (RCN). You will need this number  as part of your application to public North Carolina schools, both community colleges and 4 year institutions. Make sure that you write down your RCN. So, you will need to complete this BEFORE applying to colleges.

How can I complete RDS?

Go to: ncresidency.org and log in with your CFNC account. If you don't have a CFNC account, you will need to make one first. Go to CFNC.org to make an account. If you have an account and don't remember your login info, please contact me so I can help you.
